Former City player arrested
FORMER Manchester City player Bradley Wright-Phillips and his Southampton teammate David McGoldrick have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a fan, it was disclosed today.
The two men are accused of assault and affray.
A 21-year-old Saints fan told police that he was attacked by the two footballers in the street as he made his way home from a night out at 2am on Saturday, February 7.
Saints boss Mark Wotte said: "I am aware of the allegations that have been made against my players.
"I have spoken to them both at length where they have explained to me what happened that night and I will support them 100 per cent.
"We are unable to comment any further at this time as the matter is under police investigation, however, I can assure our fans that everyone at the club remains focused on the remainder of the season."
The incident is alleged to have happened after Southampton players went drinking in the city centre when bad weather forced the cancellation of their match against Watford.
A Hampshire Police spokeswoman said: "Hampshire Constabulary can confirm it has launched an investigation following an allegation of assault between 2am and 2.15am on February 7.
"A 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of affray and common assault and released on bail pending further enquiries."
Wright-Phillips, who earns about £8,000-a-week, is the half-brother of current City star Shaun and son of former England player Ian Wright.
He was last year cleared of stealing from handbags belonging to staff in a nightclub.
Team-mate Nathan Dyer was sentenced to 60 hours of community service after admitting burglary.

If it's proved to be true, that's a shame. I don't like to see anybody connected (past or present) with God's own in trouble. SP might have a point regarding the gargle.

Re: Former City player arrested
It does seem hard to believe that Ian Wright would only let us have Bradley if we took Shaun as well (who had just been released by Forest).
Odd how things work out, eh?

Re: Former City player arrested
I still don't know how he could have been cleared on 'that handbag thing', when he was clearly caught in the act on CCTV.

He plays football.
